Fishing Identity in 20th Century Hawaii

As a documentarian, amateur archivist and student of History I love digital libraries. Public libraries are wonderful resources, free and open to all. If you don’t have a library card please do yourself a favor and consider getting one. With it you will be granted access a treasure trove of information, books, movies, audiobooks, music, services… you would be surprised what you can find at your local public library.

Now with that PSA aside, I wanted to share some fun photos I came across this morning browsing in the Hawaii State Archives. They have a photo collection entitled “Fishing” and I enjoyed transporting myself back to these simpler times through the art of analog photography. The images below were my favorite from the collection. If you enjoy the ocean as past-time or a place to discover the natural world I hope you will enjoy these images.
